Through dance and interpretive movement, Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky’s Ambassadors of Good Will and Hugs bring a message of hope, possibilities, and that within every individual there is a unique gift. The dance team’s 15 members are all individuals with Down syndrome ranging in ages 12 to 51 years old and they represent 5 counties in the south central KY region. The group rehearses 1 to 2 times a week for 60 to 90 minutes with their coaches from Western Kentucky University. The team has learned of the rewards for discipline and hard work as they have been asked to perform and entertain audiences across the state of KY and in TN. Recently they performed on the Main Stage of SKyPAC for the Community Opening Day.
June 16th, the Bowling Green Hot Rods Minor League baseball team hosted a Down Syndrome Awareness Night and “Rock the House” fundraiser for our Buddy House. Close to 200 participated in the fundraiser with DSSCKY purchasing 20 tickets for individuals with Down syndrome.
The close to capacity crowd cheered and came to their feet for a standing ovation after the game, right before the fireworks, as the ROCKERZ danced and entertained everyone to a medley of rock-n-roll oldies. Even the Hot Rods’ mascots got in on the action with the ROCKERZ!
